The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has strongly criticized the state government’s decision to establish a Cybercrime Action Committee. The move, announced by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, was justified as a necessary step to clean up the political landscape and ensure transparency and integrity in governance.
The decision comes amidst a heated social media battle between supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the opposition APC, focusing on governance issues. In response, Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, condemned the committee as a tactic to stifle opposition voices and transform the governor into a dictator.
Lawal accused the committee of instilling fear in citizens who questioned Governor Adeleke’s alleged award of N50 billion public road contracts to unqualified companies. He vowed that the Osun APC would resist any oppressive measures through legal channels, safeguarding the rights of the opposition in the state.
Lawal pointed out the irony of Governor Adeleke’s push to curb cyberbullying while protecting his chief propagandist, wanted by the DSS for spreading fake news. He criticized the governor’s administration for alleged corruption and questioned the timing of the repressive measures, coinciding with the APC’s scrutiny of the government’s questionable contracts.
Despite the pressure from Governor Adeleke, the Osun APC affirmed its commitment to serving as a credible opposition, standing up against a government they deem as reactionary, incompetent, and corrupt. The party pledged to uphold the interests of the people of the state, refusing to surrender their rights in the face of adversity.
