NDC Women Caucus Urges NPP to Focus on Economy, Not Character Attacks

The Women Caucus of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament is calling out the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their recent attacks on Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC’s running mate for the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Instead of focusing on revitalizing the economy, the NPP has been targeting Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s character, with claims that she is not from the Central Region but rather from the Northern Region.

The caucus, comprised of strong female leaders within the NDC, is disappointed by these unfounded allegations and sees them as a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the failing economy under the NPP’s leadership. In a statement released in Accra, the caucus urged the NPP to prioritize addressing the deteriorating economy and fulfilling their promises to the Ghanaian people, rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric and personal attacks.

Led by Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, MP for Ada, the caucus emphasized the need for constructive actions that benefit all Ghanaians, rather than resorting to petty insults and baseless accusations. They expressed deep concern and disapproval at the disrespectful treatment of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, highlighting the harmful stereotypes and discrimination perpetuated by such attacks on women in leadership roles.

The caucus called on advocates for gender equality to stand against these deliberate assaults on Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, demanding strict accountability from those responsible. It is time for the NPP and Chairman Wontumi to shift their focus towards meaningful change and unity, rather than engaging in divisive tactics that only serve to undermine the progress of Ghana as a whole.
