Chris Sutton Defends Haaland, Slams Keane: Man City Must Close Gap

Former Chelsea player, Chris Sutton, has come to the defense of Manchester City’s striker, Erling Haaland, following criticism from Manchester United legend, Roy Keane, after a lackluster performance against Arsenal.

Keane had harshly compared Haaland’s performance to that of a League Two player, but Sutton argued that the blame should not fall solely on the Norwegian striker. Instead, he pointed fingers at City’s midfielders Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva for not creating enough opportunities for Haaland.

With Manchester City currently sitting in third place, just three points behind league leaders Liverpool, Sutton emphasized the importance of closing the gap. He stressed that the team cannot afford to let the distance between them and Liverpool widen any further.

Sutton’s comments, reported by BBC Sport, highlight the need for City’s key players to step up and provide Haaland with the necessary support to succeed on the field. He dismissed Keane’s comparison of Haaland to a League Two player as “ridiculous,” emphasizing that the responsibility lies with the entire team to create scoring opportunities.

As City prepares for their upcoming match against Aston Villa, Sutton’s words serve as a reminder of the team’s collective effort required to secure victories and close the gap at the top of the table. The spotlight is now on City’s star players to deliver and keep their title hopes alive.
