Manchester United Manager Erik ten Hag Faces Reduced Transfer Influence

Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has been a key figure in the club’s transfer business since his arrival in June 2022. The Dutchman has brought in 16 players across four transfer windows, many of whom he has either worked with previously or seen play in the Dutch Eredivisie.

However, despite his influence in recruitment, Ten Hag’s future at the club remains uncertain. Criticisms of his transfer record have led to speculation about his position as manager. New co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS colleagues have made changes to the club’s football department, including the appointment of a new CEO, Omar Berrada.

These changes are expected to reduce Ten Hag’s involvement in transfer decisions. The club is currently in talks with Newcastle United over compensation for technical director Dan Ashworth, who has been placed on gardening leave. Additionally, Manchester United has made a formal approach to Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox, known for his talent-spotting and development skills.

With these new figures taking charge, reports suggest that Ten Hag will have a diminished role in future transfer dealings. Despite his past successes in recruitment, it seems that the club’s hierarchy is looking to shift the balance of power when it comes to player acquisitions.
