The investigation into allegations of misconduct against Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has commenced. A seven-man panel, led by retired Justice S. A. Omonuwa, was established by Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa in response to the impeachment process initiated by the state House of Assembly.

Representatives from both the House of Assembly and Shaibu himself were present at the panel’s first session. The conflict between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki, his superior, is believed to have escalated when Shaibu declared his intention to run for Edo governor.

According to a statement from the panel’s administrative secretary, George Odidi, the proceedings began promptly at 10 am on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Judges Conference room in the New High Court Complex, Benin City. Parties involved are expected to be present, with the complainant prepared to present their case on the same day.

This development marks a significant turn in the political landscape of Edo State, with implications for the upcoming gubernatorial elections. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding story.
