The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, KADSEMA, has reported that a staggering 289,375 residents have been displaced by bandits in 12 local government areas (LGAs) in Kaduna. This alarming figure was disclosed by the Executive Secretary, Usman Mazadu, during the launch of a palliative distribution program in Maraban Kajuru, Kajuru LGA.
Mazadu emphasized that these numbers represent more than just statistics – they symbolize the lives, dreams, and resilience of the affected people. He highlighted that 134 communities have been impacted by the bandit activities, with Chikun LGA bearing the brunt with 26,345 individuals displaced. In Birnin Gwari, 84 communities have been affected, leading to 70,893 people being displaced, while similar situations have been reported in 12 other LGAs.
The distribution of relief materials is a crucial step in supporting the displaced individuals, and Mazadu reiterated that this initiative aligns with the governor’s seven-point agenda. The governor, Uba Sani, has allocated N11.4 billion towards a comprehensive palliative program to assist those affected by the crisis.
As we reflect on the magnitude of the displacement – 551 communities impacted and nearly 300,000 individuals displaced – it is evident that urgent support is needed. The governor’s commitment to providing assistance to all affected communities in the 12 LGAs is a testament to the state’s dedication to alleviating the suffering of its people.
