President Tinubu Closes Investigation into CBN Operations by Special Investigator Jim Obazee

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially brought an end to the investigation led by Jim Obazee into the operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Tinubu appointed Obazee as a special investigator to look into the CBN and other related entities, with the appointment being made official in a letter dated July 28, 2023.

In a statement released on Friday, Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Obazee, who previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), for his dedication and expertise in handling this important national task. The President commended Obazee for his commitment to the investigation and for successfully managing the complexities involved.

Following the completion of the assignment and the submission of a comprehensive final report, as well as the return of all equipment used during the investigation by March 31, 2024, the investigation has now been officially closed. It is reported that relevant law enforcement and regulatory agencies are currently taking further action based on the findings of the investigation.

This development marks a significant milestone in the efforts to ensure transparency and accountability within the financial sector in Nigeria. The closure of the investigation signals a new chapter in the ongoing efforts to uphold the integrity of the CBN and related institutions.
