Olusola Fatoba, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics, and Values, is advocating for support for the manufacturing sector to boost Nigeria’s economy and reduce dependence on imports. In a recent conversation with journalists in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, Fatoba emphasized the importance of producing what Nigerians consume locally rather than relying on foreign goods.
He expressed his opposition to calls for reopening borders, stating that it would not solve the economic crisis but rather cripple the country. Fatoba urged for a focus on empowering Nigerians through incentives to boost local production, which would ultimately lead to economic growth.
Addressing the issue of rising food prices despite the strengthening of the Naira against the dollar, Fatoba called on the government to regulate prices to ensure stability in the market. He highlighted the need for investment in the manufacturing sector, particularly in agriculture, to ease the burden on the average Nigerian.
Fatoba also stressed the importance of accountability in the economy to prevent money from disappearing without a trace. He commended the ongoing flyover project in Ekiti State capital, noting its significance in improving transportation and enhancing the economy of the state.
