Accord Party Urges Government Action on Commodity Prices Amid Naira Appreciation

The Accord Party is urging the Federal Government to take action to stabilize commodity prices in Nigeria, pointing out that despite the naira’s appreciation against the US dollar, prices of goods remain high. Speaking to NAN in Lagos, the Lagos State Chairman of the Party, Mr. Dele Oladeji, emphasized the need for the government to address the various factors contributing to inflation and work towards stabilizing prices.

Oladeji highlighted the impact of high import duties, levies, and fees on the prices of consumer goods and food items. He stressed that without revisiting and possibly reducing these charges, prices will continue to remain high, regardless of fluctuations in the exchange rate. He also criticized tax holidays and rebates for manufacturers, noting that they often benefit only the wealthy industrialists without benefiting the general population.

The Party is calling for a comprehensive approach to addressing the issue, including subsidies for produce and a closer examination of all factors influencing prices. By taking action on these fronts, the government can create relief for consumers and reverse the trend of rising prices.

In conclusion, the Accord Party’s message is clear: it’s time for the Federal Government to prioritize the stability of commodity prices and take concrete steps to make a difference for all Nigerians.
