APC Governorship Aspirant Attacked: Wife Abducted, Chief of Staff Escapes

Gunmen targeted Terwase Orbunde, an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Benue for the 2023 race, in a violent attack that resulted in the abduction of his wife and house help. Orbunde, who serves as the chief of staff to former Governor Samuel Ortom, narrowly escaped with a gunshot wound to his right arm during the assault.

The incident occurred as Orbunde and his household members were returning from their farm in Benue’s capital city. The police were promptly informed of the attack, leading to the recovery of the politician’s car. Police spokesperson SP Sewuese Anene assured the public that efforts were underway to track down the assailants and secure the safe release of the abducted individuals.

Eyewitnesses recounted how Orbunde, his wife, and house help were inspecting their farm when they were ambushed by five gunmen. The attackers demanded a hefty ransom of N100 million for the release of the abducted women. The gunshot fired during the altercation caused panic among villagers and passers-by, prompting them to flee to safety.
