Female APC Governorship Aspirant in Ondo State Urges Focus on Competency Over Zoning

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for the governorship primaries in Ondo State, a female aspirant, Funmi Waheed-Adekojo, is raising concerns about the party’s unwritten zoning arrangements. In a recent statement to the press in Akure, she emphasized the need to prioritize competency over zoning considerations in selecting candidates for the upcoming polls.

Out of the 16 governorship aspirants, Waheed-Adekojo stands out as the sole candidate from the northern senatorial district, while the rest hail from the southern senatorial district. She believes that past adherence to zoning practices has hindered the state from having capable leaders who can drive progress and development effectively.

Calling on party members to assess all aspirants objectively, regardless of their zone of origin, Waheed-Adekojo argues that all senatorial districts in the state have had their turn in the zoning rotation. She urges politicians to prioritize the welfare of the people over personal interests and to create a conducive environment for future generations.

In a plea for a more inclusive and merit-based selection process, Waheed-Adekojo highlights the importance of choosing the best candidate for the job, irrespective of their geographical background. By advocating for a shift away from traditional zoning norms, she hopes to see a more progressive and forward-thinking approach to governance in Ondo State.
