The Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Prof Olawale Moronkola, recently emphasized the institute’s commitment to the development of all sports, not just soccer. Speaking at a media briefing in Yola, Prof Moronkola acknowledged the global popularity of soccer but highlighted the importance of giving equal attention to all sports.

During their visit to Yola, Prof Moronkola and his team conducted a sports development coaching seminar for the people of Adamawa. In his address to the media, the NIS DG emphasized that all 49 sports federations, including soccer, receive the necessary support and training from the institute.

“We prioritize the development of soccer, but we also ensure that other sports are not neglected. Coaches and managers for all sports are trained and supported by the NIS,” Prof Moronkola stated. He further mentioned that emerging sports in Nigeria, such as fencing, arm wrestling, and the revival of netball, are also receiving significant attention from the institute.

The NIS’s dedication to promoting a diverse range of sports reflects their commitment to fostering a well-rounded sporting culture in Nigeria. By providing training and support across various sports, the institute aims to nurture talent and promote inclusivity in the country’s sporting landscape.
