Lagos Brazilian community lauds outgoing envoy

Brazilian descendants in Lagos State have said the outgoing Consul General of Brazil, Ambassador Francisco Luz, served meritoriously.

Speaking while conferring the Sayero of Popo Aguda and Yeye Sayero of Popo Aguda titles on Luz and his wife, Ivana, the Brazilian Descendants’ Arts and Culture, led by Teju Philips, said Luz strengthened the relationship between the descendants and Brazil consulate within the last three years in the country.

She said, “There has always been a relationship but this time around, there is a strong bounding and I think that was the beauty of it. I will always remember the ambassador for his proactive involvement in society. And his love for education and art and culture.

“The titles are a reward for their contribution to the development of the community.

He has done beautifully well. A lot of our people have been given visas to go to school there. They have also been given visas to do business.”

Meanwhile, she urged whoever would take over from him to strengthen bilateral relations beyond the height where Luz left it.

While accepting the title from Philips, who is also the Chairman of LASACO Insurance, Luz said, “We receive this title so emotionally. I’m very proud to receive this from the community.

“It is a pride and an honor; we will never forget the time here that we have spent with the community and Nigeria. This is because we are so blessed that this community accepts the Brazilian Nationals as their own,” he added.
