Brazilian descendants in Lagos State praised the outgoing Consul General of Brazil, Ambassador Francisco Luz, for his meritorious service. During a ceremony in which Luz and his wife, Ivana, were conferred the titles of Sayero of Popo Aguda and Yeye Sayero of Popo Aguda, the Brazilian Descendants’ Arts and Culture group, led by Teju Philips, highlighted Luz’s efforts to strengthen the relationship between the descendants and the Brazilian consulate over the past three years.
Philips noted, “There has always been a relationship, but this time around there is a strong bond, and that is the beauty of it. I will always remember the ambassador for his proactive involvement in society and his love for education, art, and culture.” She added that the titles recognize the couple’s contributions to community development, noting that many locals have received visas to study and conduct business in Brazil.
Philips also urged the next consul to build on Luz’s achievements and further deepen bilateral relations. Accepting the title from Philips, who also serves as Chairman of LASACO Insurance, Luz expressed his gratitude: “We receive this title with great emotion. I am very proud to receive it from the community. It is a pride and an honor; we will never forget the time we have spent with the community and Nigeria. We are blessed that this community accepts Brazilian nationals as their own.”
