The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will sweep the 2023 general elections. He made these remarks as a guest on Channels TV’s “Politics Today” on Monday night, just 19 days before the presidential vote.

Fashola emphasized that elections are fundamentally a “game of numbers,” a concept the APC understands well. He noted, “We are a few days to the election now, less than three weeks. We have momentum. The APC will win this election. We are not looking at a coronation. We know it’s a competition, but the opposition is clearly behind.” He explained that the main opposition parties—the Labour Party, NNPP, and PDP—were united in 2019, yet their combined votes fell about three million short of the total needed for victory. “If you were not enough when you were together, how can you be enough when you are broken into three?” he asked, adding that attracting new voters from outside Nigeria would not change the outcome.

According to Fashola, public sentiment is already forming. “People have made up their minds. I am happy that a lot more people, especially in the mid‑cadre, have shown interest in the elections.” He cited internal polling of 5,000 respondents, which shows the APC clearly ahead, though he declined to reveal the exact percentage difference. He added that the proportion of undecided voters is now averaging below five percent, indicating that campaign momentum is beginning to wane.
