President Tinubu Commends Nigerian Workers on May Day, Announces New Welfare Initiatives

In a significant announcement on May Day, President Bola Tinubu expressed his profound appreciation for the dedication and contributions of Nigerian workers. The President’s message was conveyed through a statement from Chief Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, earlier this Wednesday in Abuja.

Highlighting the crucial role played by workers in sustaining the nation’s growth, President Tinubu praised their “tireless efforts and patriotic zeal.” He emphasized his administration’s commitment to enhancing worker welfare, mentioning recent initiatives like wage increases and the upcoming review of the minimum wage.

During the festive events in Abuja, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Nigeria Labour Congress President Mr. Joe Ajaero, the federal government revealed a salary increase of 25% to 35% for certain worker categories. This move precedes the anticipated adjustment of the national minimum wage, necessitated by its expiration on April 1 and inflation pressures.

Mr. Ajaero advocated for more frequent wage reviews to better align with economic realities, speaking at the 2nd National Labour Adjudication and Arbitration Forum. He stressed the importance of adjusting wages annually to reflect inflation and currency value changes, aiming to mitigate the impact on inflation.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his dedication to not only improving the financial conditions of Nigerian workers but also ensuring they have the necessary tools and environments to thrive. This commitment marks a significant step towards acknowledging the workforce’s instrumental role in driving the nation’s progress.
