Vigilante Group Ambush Claims Life of Police Officer in Taraba

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) met a tragic end after being shot and killed by a vigilante group in Taraba State, stirring renewed concerns about security challenges in the region.

The incident occurred in Sandirde village of Gassol local government council, where the police officer, identified by his force number as AP/NO191462, fell victim to an ambush orchestrated by the vigilant group.

According to Police Commissioner David Iloyanomon, the ambush, led by the vigilante group’s leader Ali Dissol, resulted in the fatal shooting of the officer, who succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital in the village.

Expressing condemnation of the attack, Iloyanomon described the act as despicable and unwarranted, pledging the deployment of intelligence and operational resources to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The Taraba State Police Command extends its condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased officer while reaffirming its commitment to combating criminal activities in the area.

This incident follows closely on the heels of the brutal killing of a monarch in Gassol council by a suspected vigilante group, underscoring the urgency of addressing security concerns and ensuring the safety of residents in the region.
