Isaac Fayose, the brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has openly threatened to demolish his residential property in Abuja due to longstanding rental arrears from his tenants. In a video that went viral on Tuesday, Fayose expressed his frustration over tenants who have allegedly not paid rent for three years.
The contentious issue escalated when the tenants reportedly took legal action, leading to prolonged court adjournments which Fayose believes are tactics to extend their occupancy without payment. In the video, a heated exchange between Fayose and a person presumed to be a tenant captures the tension, with mutual accusations and threats being exchanged.
Fayose, speaking in Pidgin English, accused the tenants of attempting to usurp ownership of his property and voiced his exasperation with the judicial delays. “The tenant said na dem get the house. Ole tenants,” he remarked, indicating his disbelief over the tenants’ audacity to claim ownership.
Further emphasizing his desperation, Fayose declared his readiness to face legal consequences, including potential jail time, to resolve the situation: “I will demolish the house. Let the Nigerian government jail me if they want to. How can I get a house and tenants go dey owe me to the tune of three years and dem go dey hide for court? No justice. No be by forced to stay in Abuja o.”
In an earlier social media post, Fayose showcased actions taken against a tenant who allegedly owed four years of unpaid rent. The video displayed workers removing doors and windows of the apartment, an act Fayose justified by the tenant’s failure to pay rent and subsequent legal challenge.
