The House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Health Institutions, Amos Magaji, has emphasized the need for sustained financial investment in federal teaching hospitals across Nigeria. This call aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aiming to enhance healthcare for citizens.
During an oversight visit to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo, Magaji stressed the importance of allocating more funds to the health sector, highlighting the critical role of health institutions. He commended the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Silas Ochejele, and his team for their significant achievements within a year.
Magaji assured that he and his committee members would advocate for increased funding to develop essential infrastructure and medical equipment to meet public expectations. “We are glad to be in Otukpo today to see things for ourselves,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of firsthand assessment.
He promised the hospital management full support from the House of Representatives, including appropriate incentives through coordination with other stakeholders in Abuja. Magaji encouraged the hospital staff to work as a cohesive team, acknowledging their foundational role in the institution’s progress.
Prof. Ochejele expressed gratitude to the federal government for establishing the teaching hospital, which has notably improved medical services in the state. He also thanked the House Committee on Health Institutions for their visit, which he believes will help reposition the hospital for better service delivery.
