Tripartite Committee Resumes Talks on New Minimum Wage for Nigerian Workers

The Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage has resumed discussions regarding a new minimum wage for workers in Nigeria. The talks are being held at the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

Representing the Federal Government at the meeting are key officials including Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance; Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and National Planning; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Minister of Labour; as well as representatives of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Head of Service of the Federation.

The organized labour delegation is being led by Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Although Abdulateef Shittu, the Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, attended the meeting, no state governors were present at the time of filing this report.

The resumption of talks follows the suspension of a nationwide indefinite strike by labour unions, which had significantly impacted the economy. The strike was called off on Tuesday, allowing for these critical negotiations to move forward.
