Super Eagles Captain Troost-Ekong Clarifies Payment System for Professional Footballers

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has addressed the misconception among many Nigerians that professional footballers are paid on a weekly basis. In a recent episode of the ‘Zero Conditions’ podcast, the PAOK Salonica defender explained that while football payments are often calculated weekly, players do not receive payments every week.

Troost-Ekong elaborated that the payment system can vary from country to country, but based on his personal experience, payments are not made on a weekly schedule.

The podcast co-host, Tunde Young, asked Troost-Ekong, “Do professional footballers get paid weekly like everybody in Nigeria believes?”

Troost-Ekong responded, “No. Some countries calculate weekly, but from what I know, I can only speak for myself, you won’t see anything on a weekly basis. It’s not like you’re getting an alert every week.”

Having played in the Premier League, Serie A, and currently in the Greek league, Troost-Ekong’s insight sheds light on the varied payment structures in professional football.
