Nigerian President Bola Tinubu Falls at Democracy Day Parade, Sparking Health Concerns

During the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations at Eagles Square, President Bola Tinubu stumbled and fell while climbing into the back of a parade vehicle. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, shows Tinubu falling face down as guards rushed to assist him.

The cause of the fall remains unclear. It is uncertain whether Tinubu’s flowing agbada caused a misstep or if an unsteady gait due to potential health issues played a role. The president’s health has been a subject of public scrutiny, especially since his hospitalization in London for knee surgery and subsequent rehabilitation.

In the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu addressed concerns about his health, asserting his capability to lead: “I am not applying for the job of a grave digger; not race running, I am not a horse. I went to school to study accountancy and management. I am applying for a job of the brain; intelligent thinking; it is a job for someone who is ready to do things right. I will not let Nigerians down. I have the brain and capacity.”

Despite these reassurances, recent incidents have reignited public debate about Tinubu’s health. A video published two weeks ago by Peoples Gazette showed Tinubu with a noticeably wet garment, prompting speculation about urinary incontinence. Further criticism came from Tinubu’s estranged protégé, Rauf Aregbesola, who made a derogatory comment at a political rally implying Tinubu was losing control of his bodily functions.

The State House has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding the president’s condition following the fall.
