Swiss Court Sentences Hinduja Family Members for Exploiting Indian Staff

A Swiss court handed jail sentences to four members of Britain’s richest family on Friday for exploiting Indian staff at their Geneva mansion. The Hindujas, estimated to have a fortune of 37 billion pounds ($47 billion), were not present in court.

They were acquitted of human trafficking but convicted on other charges related to their treatment of servants brought from India, including accusations of confiscating passports. Despite settling with three employees, the prosecution pursued the case due to its gravity.

The Hinduja Group, spanning 38 countries and employing 200,000 people, has interests in oil, gas, banking, and healthcare.
