The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, has appointed Professor Bidemi Lafiaji‑Okuneye as the first substantive Vice‑Chancellor of the newly established Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), which operates campuses in Ijanikin and Epe. Professor Lafiaji‑Okuneye, a specialist in Health Education, previously served as provost of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education. She became acting Vice‑Chancellor of LASUED when the college was upgraded in 2022 to a degree‑awarding institution, alongside Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe.

The appointment was announced by Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri‑Okunola, in a statement released by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Education, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, according to a Nigerian Tribune report. Muri‑Okunola noted that Lafiaji‑Okuneye’s tenure as substantive VC is back‑dated to March 2022 and will last for a single five‑year term.

Wahab explained that the elevation complies with Section 8, Subsection (1)(C) and (D) of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) Law of 2021. He congratulated the new Vice‑Chancellor and urged her to view the appointment as a call to greater responsibility.
