The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, announced on Wednesday that fares for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system will be reduced by 50 percent. In addition to the BRT, the governor approved the same fare cut for other state‑owned transport services, including the LAGRIDE taxi scheme, First Mile and Last Mile buses, and Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY).

“The 50 % reduction on all BRT buses, LAGRIDE taxis, First Mile and Last Mile buses, and Lagos Ferry Services will take effect from tomorrow and remain in place for the next seven days,” he said. “We will also issue more Cowrie Cards to enable more Lagosians to use our services.”

During a briefing at the State House in Marina, the governor added that food banks would be established in various parts of the state to support vulnerable residents. “We will distribute foodstuffs to different communities,” he declared, noting that the measures are intended to cushion the impact of recent Federal Government policies. Further details will follow.
