Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso Visits Russia for Talks with Vladimir Putin

Moscow, Russia – Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso is set to visit Russia, marking his second trip to the country in less than a year. The visit follows a recent stop in Congo by Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov, highlighting the strengthening ties between Brazzaville and Moscow.

During his visit, Sassou Nguesso will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a range of topics including the economy, trade, energy, and security cooperation. This trip underscores the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.

Last July, Sassou Nguesso attended the Russia-Africa summit in Saint Petersburg, further solidifying Congo’s role as one of Moscow’s key allies in Africa. Russian companies are actively involved in Congo’s oil, mining, and military sectors, reflecting deep-rooted economic and security ties.

Amidst Western sanctions and diplomatic isolation due to the war in Ukraine, Russia has been seeking to bolster its relationships with African countries. Most African nations have maintained a neutral stance on the conflict, advocating for a ceasefire and peace talks instead of taking sides.
