Bruno Fernandes Reveals Cristiano Ronaldo’s Selfless Drive for Portugal’s Success

Bruno Fernandes has unveiled Cristiano Ronaldo’s ultimate desire for the Portugal national team: victory above all else.

Speaking about his former Manchester United teammate, Fernandes highlighted Ronaldo’s unselfish play during their last match. The 39-year-old Al Nassr forward chose to assist Fernandes instead of taking a shot himself, showcasing his team-first mentality.

Ronaldo, who has yet to score at EURO 2024—a feat he has achieved in five consecutive tournaments—demonstrated his commitment to the team’s success by prioritising a pass over personal glory.

Fernandes told Jogo, “After that goal, there were more images of Cristiano to watch, and one of them went to Quaresma in 2012. In a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, any forward in the world has his focus on scoring, but that decision for him was the right one. If I had decided to kick, the goal nets would be swinging anyway. The most important thing for everyone is for Portugal to win, and Cristiano wants the team to succeed so that individuals stand out.”
