Anxiety grips Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State following the alleged arrest of Hon. Samuel Agada, the member representing Ogbadibo state constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly. Agada was reportedly detained by the police after an altercation while attempting to secure the release of a constituent.
Sources revealed that Agada was unjustly manhandled by the police, prompting his aides to protest. The incident is suspected to be politically motivated, given Agada’s neutral stance in the state’s political dynamics and his inclusive approach towards his constituents.
Youth leader Comrade Ameh Ojema condemned the arrest, describing it as uncalled for since Agada was performing his constituency oversight duties. Ojema asserted that Agada’s detention was orchestrated by a faction within the Benue All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting it was politically motivated.
Joseph Udo, another youth from Ogbadibo, echoed this sentiment on his Facebook page, defending Agada’s integrity and accusing detractors of blackmail. Udo emphasized that Agada is a responsible individual who should not be subjected to such treatment.
Efforts to get a statement from the Benue Police Command Spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, were unsuccessful as she did not return calls or respond to text messages.
The incident has heightened tensions in the area, with constituents demanding transparency and justice for their representative.
