Empowering Women in Katsina State: UNDP and WANEP Support Community Livelihood

The Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), has empowered women from 300 cooperative clusters in Kaita and Faskari Local Governments. This initiative, titled "Peace Architectures for Peacebuilding and Prevention in Strengthening Community Livelihood in Katsina State," aims to boost the economic capacity of women and promote their self-reliance.

According to Ibrahim Kaula-Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, the program has provided essential items to support the women, including fertilizers, water pumps, rice processing and destoning machines, ploughing machines, and grinding machines. These items will enable the women to contribute more significantly to their communities and drive sustainable development.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, officially launched the distribution at the Multi-Purpose Women Center, Filin Samji, in Katsina metropolis. In his address, Governor Radda emphasized the importance of the program, stating, "These items are crucial for fostering economic independence and sustainable development for the women."

The Governor commended the UNDP and WANEP for their partnership, noting that the support arrived at a critical time for the state. Commissioner for Women Affairs Zainab Musa Musawa also commended the organizations, stating that the items provided will have a significant impact on the lives of the women and their communities.

Bello Lawal Yandaki, Chairman of the All Local Government Council Chairmen (ALGON), pledged the councils’ commitment to closely monitoring the situation and ensuring the items are used effectively for their intended purpose.

This initiative demonstrates the commitment of the Katsina State Government and its partners to promoting the economic empowerment of women and fostering sustainable development in the state.
