Member of the House of Representatives for Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency, Mansur Manu‑Soro, announced that he will not contest the next general election. The decision was conveyed in a statement released by his aide, Safiyanu Ibrahim Darazo, which informed constituents that the lawmaker will step aside from the upcoming race.
In the statement, Soro thanked the people of Darazo/Ganjuwa, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for the support he received during his tenure. He described representing the constituency as a “rare privilege” and expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him by voters.
Soro affirmed his commitment to continue delivering on his mandate until the end of his term. He highlighted ongoing projects in education, health and other critical sectors, including the Gifted Schools in Sade, Soro, Darazo and Kafin Madaki, the Special Primary School in Lanzai, and the National Open University of Nigeria study centre in Soro. Health‑care initiatives cited were the Nana Kashim Shettima Pediatric Hospital in Sade, the Aisha Bala Mohammed Pediatric Hospital in Soro, the Hadiza M.A. Abubakar Pediatric Hospital in Gabarin and the Maryam Uwais Pediatric Hospital in Miya.
Although he is withdrawing from the electoral contest, Soro said he will remain active in politics and continue contributing to the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria. “I pray to Almighty Allah that He continues to bless Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency, Bauchi State and the nation,” the statement read.
The announcement follows Soro’s resignation from the PDP earlier this year, which he attributed to deepening internal divisions and unresolved conflicts within the party. He submitted his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Ganjuwa Ward, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
Soro currently chairs the House Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises, a role that positions him to influence policies affecting micro‑, small‑ and medium‑scale businesses nationwide.
His withdrawal opens the field for new candidates in Darazo/Ganjuwa and underscores ongoing challenges within the PDP at the state level. Stakeholders will watch how the constituency’s projects progress under the outgoing representative’s continued supervision and which political figures emerge to contest the seat in the forthcoming election.
