APC Moves to De-marginalise Igbos in Nigerian Politics

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed plans to de-marginalize Igbos in Nigerian politics. At a recent meeting in Abakaliki, APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, emphasized the party’s resolve to break the cycle of marginalization facing the Igbo community.

According to Ganduje, the APC has already demonstrated its commitment to the Igbo population by offering them significant appointments in the President Bola Tinubu-led administration. Noting that Igbos had shown massive support to the party and the presidency, Ganduje urged them to continue their involvement in the party’s activities and work together to achieve common goals.

The APC chairman highlighted Ebonyi State’s efforts to promote the party’s activities, praising Governor Francis Nwifuru for sustaining the party’s ideals. Governor Nwifuru, in his speech, emphasized the importance of inclusiveness in ensuring the party’s success, citing Ebonyi’s policy of welcoming stakeholders from all walks of life.

In a twist, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State reflected on the challenges faced by the party in the current economic climate, commenting that it is an "ugly coincidence" that the APC is leading the country during these hard times, caused by the global economic meltdown.

Depicting the situation, the APC chairman of the South East Governors Forum noted that many Nigerians struggle with poverty, with some experiencing unimaginable hardship. He expressed confidence that the tested policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration would provide a sense of relief to the people.

In another development, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, called on South East residents to identify with the government’s efforts to de-marginalize their region. Kalu acknowledged the president’s gestures towards the Igbos, including offering them leadership positions in his government, and urged repayment for his good deeds.

As reported, the South East Development Commission Bill, aimed at addressing the community’s numerous challenges, has been finalised and awaits the president’s approval.

This move by the APC, aimed at bridging the long-standing gap between the Igbo community and the federal government, could hold significant implications for the region’s future.
