Odell Beckham Jr.’s Lawsuit Against Nike Ends in Draw
In a highly anticipated verdict, a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury has decided that neither Odell Beckham Jr. nor Nike breached their contracts, and neither party was awarded any monetary damages. The lawsuit, which was filed in November 2022, stemmed from Beckham’s allegations that Nike withheld millions of dollars and failed to pay him a $2 million payment without warning.
Beckham, a star wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the verdict. “JUST DO……RIGHT,” he exclaimed, thanking God, his team, and the jury for doing what’s right in a world full of wrong. “STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN! JUSTICE WAS SERVED!!!”
The jury deliberated for several hours before reaching their decision. A representative from Nike released a statement, saying, “With this verdict, all of Mr. Beckham’s claims have been decided against him without any monetary award. The decision confirmed that Nike complied with its commitments. Nike is grateful to the jury and the Court for their careful attention to this case.”
The lawsuit was a result of Beckham’s claims that Nike made it nearly impossible for him to trigger valuable extensions of his deal and withheld a $2 million payment without warning, citing footwear and glove violations when he customized his equipment.
