Rwanda’s Unity and Friendship with Other Countries Emphasized by President-Elect Paul Kagame
Rwanda’s President-elect, Paul Kagame, has emphasized the importance of unity and friendship with other countries, stating that the country has been built by the unity of its people after a tumultuous past. Kagame made these remarks during a cocktail party attended by members of RPF-Inkotanyi, allied political parties, artistes, the private sector, and civil society.
Kagame thanked his family, RPF’s leadership and members, security organs, the private sector, and many others for their support throughout the campaign and election journey. He also extended appreciation to artistes who played a vital role in the RPF campaign trail, acknowledging the crucial role their music played in mobilizing voters.
The President-elect expressed his gratitude to Rwandans, stating that they have all become one, regardless of their political affiliations. He emphasized that Rwanda is a reliable friend to other countries, but warned that if taken as an enemy, the country will not take its peace and security for granted.
Provisional results announced by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) show that Kagame secured 99.18 percent of the votes, while his closest rival, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party, managed only 0.50 percent of the vote, and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana trailed with 0.32 percent.
Kagame’s remarks come as the electoral commission prepares to announce final results not later than July 27. According to Article 102 of the constitution, the elected President takes the oath of office within 30 days following his or her election, administered by the President of the Supreme Court.
In his speech, Kagame emphasized the importance of unity, stating that the country’s journey is one of self-realization, where Rwandans are recognizing their worth and working together to build a better future. He also emphasized the country’s commitment to cooperation, stating that Rwanda will always extend a hand of cooperation to its adversaries, but will not hesitate to defend itself if necessary.
As Rwanda looks to the future, Kagame’s remarks serve as a reminder of the country’s commitment to unity, friendship, and cooperation with other nations.
