Tanzanian Deputy Minister Resigns Amid Social Challenges

In a surprise move, Ambassador Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk, the nominated Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, has submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr Tulia Ackson.

According to a statement issued by the Parliament Office, Communication and International Relation Unit, Ambassador Mbarouk cited social challenges he is currently facing as the reason for his decision to resign. In his letter, he wrote, “I must resign so that I have an opportunity to deal with the challenges.”

Ambassador Mbarouk’s resignation comes after he was nominated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in May 2021 during a mini cabinet reshuffle. Prior to his appointment, he served as Tanzania’s Ambassador to Abu Dhabi, UAE, and was also accredited to Pakistan, Iran, and Bahrain from May 27, 2013, to November 2019.

This development marks a significant change in the country’s political landscape, and it remains to be seen how it will impact the government’s foreign affairs and East African cooperation efforts.
