Nigerian Cleric Warns against Imminent #EndBadGovernace Protest, Citing Potential Devastation

A top cleric in Nigeria, Rev. Kayode Ojuola, has issued a warning against the proposed #EndBadGovernace protest, cautioning that the outcome could be devastating. Ojuola’s warning came during the fourth-anniversary celebration of Aids for Orphans, Widows and Vulnerable People Initiative (AFOWVPI) and the graduation ceremony of students of a graphics design program in Lokoja, Kogi State.

According to Ojuola, Nigerians are living below the poverty line, necessitating swift intervention. He urged the government to listen to the people’s complaints and amend certain policies to make life easier for all citizens. “It’s not just the youths or the poor who are suffering, the rich are crying too in Nigeria,” he emphasized.

Referring to the planned protest, Ojuola advised those organizing it to cancel their plans, stating that the pursuit of peace is more crucial. He drew parallels with incidents in Uganda, Sudan, and Kenya, where protests have led to chaos and further suffering. “We are pleading with the youths to suspend the protest and see what the government is willing to do to alleviate the current suffering in our land,” he pleaded.

Ojuola also cited the #EndSARS protest as an example of how events can spin out of control, leading to destruction of properties and loss of innocent lives. His concerns echo the sentiment of many who advocate for peaceful means of addressing the ongoing challenges in Nigeria.

The cleric’s warning serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of mass protests and underscores the need for a collaborative approach to solving the country’s problems. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how the government and protesters will respond to this ominous warning.
