Malaysian Crown Prince Strengthens Ties with Nigeria, Announces 84 Scholarships for Nigerian Students

The Malaysian Crown Prince, Tuanku Jamalullail, has announced that 84 Nigerian students are currently studying various courses in Malaysian institutions under the Islamic scholarship scheme. The Prince made this revelation during his official visit to Nigeria, where he met with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.

The Malaysian ruler reiterated his desire to further strengthen trade relations between Malaysia and Nigeria, in the interest of economic and education development. He emphasized that Malaysia is willing to share its expertise and technology to support the development of Sokoto state and Nigeria at large.

In his response, the Sultan of Sokoto appreciated the Prince’s visit and welcomed his proposal for closer cooperation with the Sultanate Council, Sokoto state government, and Nigeria at large. The Sultan also highlighted the significant role played by the founders of the Sokoto Caliphate in propagating Islam across Africa, and their literary works’ impact on transformations, socioeconomic, religious, and scholarly activities.

The Crown Prince also described the existing relation between the two countries as cordial, stressing that through cooperation and collaborations, the two countries would ensure more achievements and developments. He further commended the Sultan of Sokoto for his courage and style of leadership.

The visit is seen as a positive step towards strengthening ties between Malaysia and Nigeria, and promoting greater collaboration in various sectors for the benefit of both countries. In addition, the Prince and his entourage had an interaction with some Islamic scholars in Sokoto State, where Prof. Mukhtar Bunza of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto made a presentation on the Universal Relevance of Sokoto caliphate founded by Sheikh Usmanu bn Fodiyo. Other scholars also made presentations, including Alkalin Malaman Sokoto, Ahmed Umar-Helele, and Malam Zaruk Shehu Na Liman, among others.

The Malaysian Crown Prince’s visit and initiatives aim to promote greater cooperation and collaboration between Malaysia and Nigeria, and to strengthen their ties in various sectors.
