The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has appointed Francis Obinna Nwaubani as the new acting Director General of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA). Nwaubani takes over from Mrs Esther Agu Anyanwu, who has been directed to proceed on compulsory retirement, effective July 31, 2024.
Mrs Anyanwu, who had been serving in an acting capacity since after taking over from former DG, Hyacinth Okoli, previously held the position of Director of Finance before ascending to the position of acting DG. Her compulsory retirement was confirmed through a circular from the office of the Head of Service in Abia State, dated July 30, 2024.
According to the circular, HSA/S.0117/Vol.V/44, signed by Kalu Boniface, for the Head of Service, Mrs Anyanwu is required to proceed on compulsory retirement with effect from July 31, 2024. The circular further stated that the acting DG is to hand over to the new acting helmsman, Francis Obinna Nwaubani, who came first in a recent interview to fill the vacant position.
Nwaubani, who is from the Department of News and Current Affairs, confirmed his appointment to journalists, expressing gratitude for their good wishes and seeking their continued prayers and support in the challenges ahead.
Prior to the new development, BCA’s Radio and Television stations experienced breaches in transmission for about two weeks.
Obinna Nwaubani’s appointment as the new Director General of BCA comes at a critical time, as the corporation navigates the challenges of managing its broadcasting services.
I would like to take the opportunity to extend my gratitude to Mrs. Esther Agu Anyanwu for her services and wish her a smooth transition.
