Executive Director Calls for Calamity Accountability in Kano Protest Chaos

Kano Protest: Activist Calls for Arrest of Organizers, Condemns "Hunger" Protest

A controversial protest in Kano, Nigeria, has left a trail of destruction and loss of life, prompting the Executive Director of Citizens for Development and Education (CDE), Amb. Ibrahim Waiya, to call for the arrest of the organizers.

In a statement, Waiya condemned the protest, saying that the organizers must account for the lives and properties lost during the mayhem. He also criticized those who helped organize and participate in the protest, describing their actions as "calamitous" and "insensitive" to the plight of the people.

The protest, which was held on Thursday, turned violent and destructive, with hoodlums unleashing violence and looting properties. Waiya lamented that the protest had resulted in the loss of human lives, huge private and public investments, and had tarnished the image of Kano State.

The activist also praised the swift action of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who imposed a curfew, and the quick response of security agencies to contain the situation and arrest some of the looters and hoodlums.

Waiya also expressed concern about the insensitivity of the Federal government, saying that it has not shown empathy to the suffering citizens, while those in power continue to spend public money extravagantly on their own welfare.

The activist’s statement also highlighted the growing lack of confidence in democracy and government among Nigerians, and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent steps to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

The unfolding situation in Kano State will be closely monitored, and those found culpable in the mess will be brought to justice, Waiya assured.

The controversy surrounding the protest and its aftermath highlights the complexities of democracy and governance in Nigeria, and the need for effective leadership and communication to address the concerns of the people.
