Benue Governor Fires SIEC Chairman Over Poor Judgment

Benue State Governor Approves Removal of State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman

In a move aimed at addressing concerns over poor judgment and lack of public interest, Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has approved the removal of the chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Dr John Chem. The decision comes after the state House of Assembly recommended the removal of the SIEC chairman on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, the Assembly accused the SIEC chairman of lacking good judgment, which would appeal to the greater majority of all stakeholders. The statement also noted that the chairman’s actions in office fell short of the public interest.

The governor has accepted the resolution and directed the SIEC chairman to immediately hand over to the administrative secretary of the commission. This move is seen as a step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the electoral process in Benue State.

The development is a significant one, as it highlights the importance of effective governance and the need for leaders to take decisive action to address concerns and promote public interest.
