Actors Guild Lifts Suspension on Producer Adanma Luke After Junior Pope’s Death

Actors Guild of Nigeria Lifts Suspension on Producer Adanma Luke

In a shocking turn of events, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted the suspension placed on producer Adanma Luke, barely four months after the tragic death of popular actor Junior Pope. The late actor and four crew members died in a boat accident while filming a movie on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta state, on April 10, 2024.

The AGN suspended Luke for breaching safety protocols, and prohibited its members from working with her until further notice. However, in a statement by its National Secretary, Abubakar Yakubu, the Guild has announced the lifting of the suspension.

According to the statement, the National President of the Guild, Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, MON, announced the lifting of the suspension placed on Adanma Luke, producer of the movie "Another Side of Life," where star actor Junior Pope and four other crew members lost their lives in Anam river.

In addition to lifting the suspension, the President also lifted the ban on filming in riverine areas, but cautioned members to apply all safety standards recommended in the AGN Bylaws.

This decision comes as a surprise to many, as the suspension was seen as a severe punishment for Luke’s role in the tragic incident. The AGN’s decision to lift the suspension and allow filming to resume in riverine areas has sparked controversy, with many questioning the Guild’s stance on safety protocols.

The incident has left the Nigerian film industry reeling, and the lifting of the suspension has raised questions about the Guild’s ability to enforce safety standards and hold producers accountable for breaches.
