Plateau Governor Describes 2015-2023 as "Season of Locusts"
In a statewide broadcast, Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang has described the period from 2015 to 2023 as a "season of locusts," marked by a significant decline in the nation’s dignity. Nigeria, once the largest economy in Africa, has become the poverty capital of the world.
Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the citizens of Plateau for their understanding and dignified conduct during the ongoing national protest tagged #EndBadGovernance. He commended the youth for demonstrating peacefully and admirably, showcasing the glorious days of the beautiful and peaceful Plateau.
The governor emphasized that the years of strife were imposed upon the people by those who fear their unity of purpose. He noted that the painful years of distress and poverty do not reflect who they truly are as a peace-loving and accommodating people.
Mutfwang highlighted the efforts his administration has taken to create a peaceful and prosperous Plateau, including investments in agriculture, public transportation, health, and education. He also mentioned the distribution of fertilizer and palliatives to alleviate suffering and improve food security.
The governor urged citizens to remain patient and peaceful while the government addresses their concerns. He appealed for a temporary pause on protests to engage in dialogue with leaders and enhance plans for poverty alleviation.
Mutfwang also warned that the longer the protests continue, the greater the likelihood of them being hijacked by sponsored criminals and hoodlums. He appreciated the efforts of traditional, community, and religious leaders, as well as civil society organizations, who worked behind the scenes to address the anger and frustrations of the protesters.
The governor extended his gratitude to those observing the curfew and assured that it would be reviewed as soon as the security situation permits. He emphasized that his administration will not tolerate actions that disrupt peace and security, urging individuals and groups planning to cause unrest to reconsider their actions.
In conclusion, Mutfwang appealed to all Plateau citizens to continue demonstrating patience, peace, and lawfulness while the government addresses their concerns. He urged unity in efforts to build a prosperous and secure state.
