NAF Deploys Aircraft to Gombe State Amidst Protests
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed aircraft in Gombe State to maintain security after a recent protest was hijacked by unscrupulous elements, resulting in destruction of lives and property. The deployment was announced by Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, during a meeting with Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.
According to Abubakar, the protest, which was part of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement, was hijacked by individuals who did not share the peaceful intentions of the organizers. The situation necessitated the deployment of additional security measures, including an aircraft for reconnaissance missions and the regiment forces of the NAF, which joined other security services in quelling the unrest.
In his remarks, Abubakar emphasized that it is the responsibility of the Armed Forces to uphold democratic values in the country, citing Nigeria’s democratic institutions, values, and principles as the foundation upon which the nation is built. He reiterated that it is the constitutional responsibility of the Nigerian Air Force and sister services to protect and strengthen these institutions.
In response, Governor Yahaya commended the NAF 109 Combat Reconnaissance Group for their swift response in addressing looting and theft during the protest. The Governor acknowledged that the country is going through trying times, but praised the commitment of the NAF and other security agencies in addressing various security challenges, which has ensured that citizens can go about their lives with fewer threats.
Yahaya also assured Abubakar that his government is committed to providing infrastructure to the 109 CRG to enable the unit to function effectively.
The deployment of the NAF aircraft is seen as a proactive measure to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the state.
