Benue State Governor Condemns Assassination of Humanitarian Worker

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has condemned the assassination of Chris Terfa, a prominent humanitarian worker, by unknown persons on Friday in Makurdi. Terfa, who was a health rights advocate and leader in Nigeria’s development sector, was killed at his office complex along Nyesom Wike Road, Makurdi.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Terfa was the national chairperson of the National Key Population Health and Rights Network (NKPHRN) and the executive director of Concerned Youth for Development Initiative (CYDI). His contributions to the health and human rights sectors, particularly his advocacy for vulnerable populations in the fight against HIV/AIDS, were significant.

The governor, accompanied by top government functionaries, visited the family of the deceased on Sunday and expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He extended his condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased and commended the prompt actions of the Divisional Police Officer of E Division, Daniel Ezeala, and his team.

The governor assured Benue residents that the state government was committed to ensuring that justice was served and charged the police to arrest and prosecute the culprits.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the humanitarian community, with many paying tribute to Terfa’s dedication and commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Nigeria.
