Benue Governor Cancels APC Meeting, Vows Consequences for Disruptions

Benue State Governor Denies Knowledge of APC Meeting, Warns of Consequences

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has denied any knowledge of a meeting allegedly announced by the former state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Austin Agada. The meeting, reportedly scheduled to take place on Thursday in Makurdi, has been called off by the Governor.

According to a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia has warned that there will be consequences if any person or group attempts to disrupt the peace of the state by converging for an unauthorized meeting.

The statement emphasized that the Governor is still the APC leader in the state and that no APC meeting can be summoned without his knowledge. As the Chief Security Officer in the state, Governor Alia stressed that he should be aware of when a legitimate gathering is supposed to take place.

“Nigeria is not a lawless state, and so is Benue State,” the statement read. “Those who think they can undermine the authority of the state must know this and know peace.”

The Governor’s statement comes as a response to the alleged meeting announcement, which was published on the cyberspace. The move is seen as a bid to maintain peace and stability in the state, and to ensure that any gatherings are conducted in a lawful and authorized manner.

The situation is being closely monitored, and it remains to be seen how the development will unfold in the coming days.
