Edo Queens Secure Spot in WAFU B Women’s Champions League Final

Nigeria’s Edo Queens have made it to the final of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers after defeating hosts Inter D’Abidjan 2-1 in the semi-final at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake on Tuesday night.

The Nigerian champions, led by coach Moses Aduku, took an early two-goal lead through Emem Essien and Blessing Illivieda. Adjoua Niamien reduced the deficit for Inter from the spot after the break.

Edo Queens’ Governor Godwin Obaseki congratulated the team on their victory, praising their dominance and confidence throughout the game. “I congratulate Edo Queens for their victory today in Ivory Coast against FC Inter. Our girls dominated the game and gave a good account of themselves, dictating the pace of the game and holding on to the last minute,” Obaseki said in a statement.

The team will face Benin Republic’s Ainonvi FC in the final, who defeated Etincelle of Burkina Faso 1-0 in their semi-final clash. The final will take place at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake on Friday.

Edo Queens have remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, and their coach is confident they can make a statement on the continental stage. “As they continue with the laudable display at the WAFU Zone B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, we are reassured of their resolve to come out victorious in the finals and ultimately make a loud statement on the continental stage,” Obaseki added.

The team’s success has also inspired pride among the girl child population in Edo State, with Obaseki celebrating their genius and promising that every girl child in the state is proud of their performance.
