Gastro illness outbreak kills 7, hospitalizes many in Nigerian state

Crisis Unfolds in Kirikasamma Local Government Area as Gastroenteritis Claims Seven Lives and Hospitals Multiple Patients

A deadly wave of gastroenteritis is sweeping through Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State in Nigeria, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. At least seven people have lost their lives and numerous others are struggling in hospitals, sparking a mounting sense of concern and anxiety among residents and authorities.

Reports confirm that the outbreak is affecting several communities, including Malori, Maikintari, Dilmari, Kirikasamma, and parts of Baturiya village, prompting swift action from healthcare officials. Musa Abdullahi Diladige, the local government’s Primary Healthcare Coordinator, confirmed the incident, revealing that healthcare services are being provided by a team of health personnel dispatched to the affected areas. Muhammad Maisamari, Head of the Department of Water and Sanitation, assured that efforts are being made to contain the outbreak and prevent further tragedies.

In a bid to contain the spread of the disease, the local government council has purchased essential medication and other related supplies. Director of Administration and General Services, Idris Gambo Abubakar, who is also acting chairman of the council, pledged to provide full assistance to tackle the issue. "The situation is being closely monitored by health authorities, and efforts are being made to contain the outbreak and prevent further deaths," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, attempts to reach Jigawa State’s Commissioner of Health for a response were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

The outbreak of gastroenteritis in Kirikasamma Local Government Area underscores the importance of robust public health measures and the critical need for swift response. As the situation unfolds, residents and authorities are waiting with bated breath to see if the outbreak is contained and the death toll rises.
