Miss Universe Nigeria Denies Identity Theft Allegations

Chidimma Adetshina, the newly-crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has spoken out for the first time regarding the allegations of identity theft made by the South African government. In an interview with Arise News, the 23-year-old beauty queen denied any involvement in identity theft, stating that she is waiting for the conclusion of the case before making further comments.

The controversy surrounding Adetshina’s identity began when she was announced as a contestant in the Miss South Africa pageant. The South African Department of Home Affairs revealed that preliminary evidence suggests that Adetshina’s mother committed fraud and identity theft. Adetshina’s mother, a Mozambican who has become a naturalized citizen of South Africa, gave birth to Adetshina in Soweto at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in 2001.

Adetshina exited the Miss South Africa pageant following the allegations and accepted an invitation to join the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant. In the interview, Adetshina acknowledged that she had avoided questions about the matter, stating that it is a legal issue and she does not have all the facts.

“I did not steal anyone’s identity. I’m just waiting for the conclusion of the case and the whole matter. Then moving forward, I will know exactly what to say because I feel right now if I say something and another thing comes out tomorrow, I’m just avoiding all those two things contradicting each other,” Adetshina said.

The beauty queen emphasized that she is not aware of the full details of the matter, but she is adamant that she did not engage in identity theft. Adetshina’s statements come as the investigation into the allegations continues, and it remains to be seen what the outcome will be.

The case has raised questions about identity and nationality, particularly in the context of international pageants and competitions. Adetshina’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying identity and citizenship in such contexts.

For now, Adetshina is focusing on her new role as Miss Universe Nigeria and looks forward to the conclusion of the investigation. As she waits for the outcome, she has made it clear that she did not steal anyone’s identity and is committed to clearing her name.
