Election Preparations in Full Swing: Osun State’s 18 Political Parties Ready to Contest Local Government Poll

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has announced that all 18 registered political parties in the state have submitted nominations to participate in the upcoming local government election. This historic development marks the first time all parties will be taking part in the poll, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye made the disclosure during a 3-day retreat in Osogbo, emphasizing that the commission is fully prepared for the election. Abioye highlighted that the commission had received nominations from all parties and is currently verifying the credentials of the received nominations. He expressed confidence in the election process, stating, "We are very much prepared. And you can see that we gave notice of elections in February 2024, February this year, even before the matter at the Supreme Court judgement was conceived."

The chairman also assured that the commission is committed to following the election timetable, which has been released to the public and participating political parties. "Osun State Independent Electoral Commission is not one of those commissions that are rushing to conduct local government elections. And if you look at the outline and the schedule of activities as contained in the timetable which we published, you will see that we are following the steps as outlined one after the other," he stated.

This development is significant, as it reflects the commission’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity. The election is expected to be a major milestone in the state’s democratic process, with all parties having an equal opportunity to contest and participate.

As the election draws near, residents of Osun State are eagerly anticipating the outcome, which is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s political landscape. With the commission’s commitment to a fair and transparent process, it is clear that the stage is set for a peaceful and credible election.
