Chelsea Miss Out on Osimhen, Johnson Says

Chelsea’s Missed Opportunity: Glen Johnson Criticizes Blues’ Failure to Sign Victor Osimhen

Glen Johnson, a former Chelsea defender, has expressed his disappointment over the club’s failure to sign Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen. The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge all summer, but ultimately joined Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray on a season-long loan deal.

According to Johnson, Chelsea’s decision not to sign Osimhen is a major missed opportunity for the club. “The obvious one would be Victor Osimhen. He was the big name they wanted and didn’t get,” Johnson told Betfred. “They’ve signed loads of youngsters that may not be in the team straight away, despite spending a lot of money on them, and I think Osimhen is the big signing that they’ve missed out on.”

Chelsea’s summer transfer window was marked by a significant amount of activity, with the club signing several young players. However, Johnson believes that Osimhen would have been a key addition to the squad. The Nigerian forward has impressed in his time at Napoli, scoring 18 goals in 38 appearances last season.

The failure to sign Osimhen is a blow to Chelsea’s hopes of challenging for the Premier League title this season. The club has invested heavily in its squad over the summer, but the absence of a proven goal-scorer could be a major weakness. With Osimhen now plying his trade in Turkey, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be able to find a replacement of similar quality before the transfer window closes.

Johnson’s comments highlight the frustration felt by many Chelsea fans over the club’s failure to sign Osimhen. The Nigerian forward’s arrival would have provided a significant boost to the squad, and his absence is likely to be felt in the coming months. As Chelsea looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2021-22 season, the failure to sign Osimhen is a setback that the club will struggle to overcome.
