Counterfeit Cosmetic Factory Shut Down in Lagos, Nigeria
In a major crackdown on illegal activities, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a factory producing counterfeit cosmetic products in Lagos, Nigeria. The factory, located at the Trade Fair Complex, was stormed by NAFDAC personnel who discovered a stash of unregistered chemicals, packaging materials, and expired products being revalidated for sale.
The operation led to the seizure of over 1,200 cartons of fake cosmetic products, including mini-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners. The confiscated items have been moved to the NAFDAC office for further investigation. According to estimates, the street value of the seized items is around N50 million.
The agency has urged the public to be cautious when purchasing cosmetic products and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office. This move is seen as a significant step in tackling the growing problem of counterfeit products in Nigeria, which can pose serious health risks to consumers.
The closure of the factory is a testament to NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring the authenticity of cosmetic products in the country. The agency has been working tirelessly to track down and shut down illegal factories, and this operation is a major success in that effort.
As consumers, it is essential to be aware of the dangers of counterfeit products and to take steps to protect themselves. By being cautious and reporting any suspicious activities, we can all play a role in keeping our communities safe and healthy.
