ICPC Chair Accused of Violating Court Orders in Kano State

Chairman of ICPC Faces Inquiry Over Alleged Violation of Court Orders

In a shocking turn of events, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State has reported the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Barrister Musa Aliyu, to the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) over allegations of violating court orders.

According to a petition submitted to the LPPC, ALGON claims that ICPC operatives invaded the residence of the interim caretaker of Rimin-Gada Local Government at night, arresting and detaining him in violation of a subsisting court order.

The petition, signed by Barrister Shamsi Ubale Jibril, reveals that on August 27, a high court in Kano granted an ex-parte order restraining ICPC and others from harassing, inviting, arresting, or detaining the applicants. However, despite the order being served on the ICPC, the agency allegedly continued to disregard the court’s directives.

The petition details a series of incidents where ICPC officers attempted to arrest and intimidate the applicants, including the Chairman of Rimin Gado Local Government, who was illegally detained at the ICPC’s head office in Abuja.

ALGON has urged the LPPC to investigate the matter and ensure that the highest standards of behavior and adherence to the rule of law are upheld by all members of the legal profession, including those admitted to the Inner Bar.

The case has sparked concerns about the independence of the judiciary and the accountability of government agencies in Nigeria. As the matter continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the LPPC will respond to the allegations and whether ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu will face consequences for his actions.
